Beer
Leinenkugel has a new flavor of beer, and it's delicious! It's called Leinenkugel's Orange Shandy. It tastes like Blue Moon with the orange already squeezed in it! I really like it! It's refreshing. A six pack sells for $8.99 at Kroger.Wine
On Bjorn's birthday, I stopped and picked up a bottle of wine. I got Robert Mondavi's Pinot Noir. It is smooth and crisp, not bitter or tannic at all. It has some good deep fruit flavors like dark cherries. I got it for $9.99 at Fresh Market.Burger
Another Bjorn birthday treat! When I was at Fresh Market, I picked up some pre-made burgers ready to go on the grill! It was the night before our last snow day, and I was in a hurry trying to get out of there before the snow hit. Fresh Market's meat case is awesome! They have all kinds of different pre-made burgers with mixings already inside like bacon and sharp cheddar and blue cheese and scallions. I bought Gouda and sliced portobella mushrooms. We cooked them on our indoor griddle, put them on some homemade onion rolls from Fresh Market, and topped them with tomato and A1 sauce. So good! If you need a quick dinner, I think they were $5.99/lb, but don't quote me on that!Fudge
For dessert one night this weekend, I picked up some homemade fudge from Fresh Market. (I must have been in a Fresh Market kind of mood this past week!) Their fudge is amazing! Over the past few years, Rachael and I have tried many flavors: maple, rocky road, cookies and cream, and peanut butter! We are fudge aficionados now! The new flavor I picked up was chocolate cherry. I think it is their Valentine's Day flavor. As you can tell by the picture I took the day after I bought it, it didn't last long :) It was that good!!Lip Color
I love this Revlon Color Stay Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in the color Cherish. I couldn't find it for awhile, and I'm glad I found it hanging around in my "other" purse from a night Bjorn and I went out over a month and a half ago! The color looks super bright when you buy it, but it goes on a nice pinky, lavendar color. I love these because they are moisturizing and they give a nice wash of color as compared to a thick application like a normal lipstick would. I also feel like they last a good amount of time on my lips. I like the Revlon lip balm stains much more than the Covergirl ones. I don't know why, but they really go on my lips pretty dry.
Movie
This past weekend, Bjorn and I saw Gravity. Holy, wow! Sandra Bullock is fantastic in this movie! The movie is beautifully made and it is just beautiful to look at. Highly recommend seeing this one! I was on the edge of my seat for most of it!
Music
I was listening to the music on my iPhone in my car the other day, and a song I hadn't heard in awhile came on. The words and the music are so beautiful. It's "Lovely" by Sara Haze:
And one more I've always loved, but I CANNOT get out of my head this week! But it's okay! I love it! It's a fun pick-me-up song!
"Little Black Dress" Sara Bareilles
Funny story, but I've had this song, and "5 Black Cats" from my 5th grade students' music class stuck in my head all week! They think it is hilarious to continue to sing it to me so it never "leaves my head"!
YouTube Channel
One of my new favorite YouTube channels is DoItOnaDime. Kathryn vlogs about decorating and organizing on a dime using Goodwill, thrift stores, and dollar stores. She has some great vlogs, and I love her energy! She's so fun!Book
I read a great young adult fiction book last week. It is The Last Part First by Angela Johnson. It's about a teenage boy who finds himself a father at the age of sixteen. The story is so complex and interesting. I couldn't put it down. The story alternates between the present and the past and reveals how he got to the point he is in his life. Fantastic story. Very well done.
Salt Box
I found this cute little ceramic box for salt at Target on sale for $1.50, and I think it is so helpful! We just fill it up with salt and keep it next to the stove. When we need a little salt, we can open it and pinch a little bit in our fingers to sprinkle on our food. I hated opening up the big salt container and accidentally pouring too much into my hand, wasting a bunch of it, or accidentally dumping a bunch into our food. This makes it so much easier not to do that!My Mom's Angel Food Cake Topping
My mom always made this delicious lemon topping for angel food cake (homemade or store-bought cake) when I was growing up. I haven't made it in awhile, and something just made me want to make it the other week. I should make it more often! It's so good! I just want to eat it out of the bowl :) It really dresses up a store bought angel food cake if you're in a bind and need a fast dessert!
Here's the recipe:
- One Tub of Cool Whip--any kind you like (original flavor); I use the Free Cool Whip
- One small box of sugar-free instant vanilla pudding
- One container of Light Yoplait Lemon flavored yogurt (any brand will do, just don't use Greek yogurt! I made this mistake and it was way too thick!)
- One angel food cake
Set out the Cool Whip until it is defrosted enough to stir. Place the Cool Whip, pudding, and yogurt in a mixing bowl. Whip together until completely combine. I use a hand mixer. I have never been able to combine the pudding well enough just mixing with a whisk. Make sure you mix really well; otherwise, the pudding will taste gritty in the topping. Slice the cake and top with desired amount of topping. You can also top with fresh fruit too!
Oops! Used Greek yogurt!
Have you tried anything new this week?
Love and happiness <3 Holly
Wow! You've tried a lot of things lately. There's definitely a lot of delicious-ness in this post that I'll have to try out, too.
ReplyDeleteI know :) I think it was partly because my hubby's birthday was last week, so we ate a ton of delicious things for his b-day dinner! Definitely some good eats!
